Leading Edge Tour Technology Premiers at Casa Loma in Toronto, Canada
What do the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, The Forbidden City in Beijing, Westminister Abby in London, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and now Casa Loma have in common? They all use Acoustiguide Inc.’s leading edge interpretive technology to optimize their visitor’s tour experience. Acoustiguide Inc., with the support of AudioConexus, is to supply an innovative multimedia tour technology at Toronto Landmark, the first such installation in the Greater Toronto Area.
The Board of Trustees of Casa Loma is pleased to announce the selection of Acoustiguide Inc. and their Canadian distributor AudioConexus as the new suppliers of digital multimedia guide technology at Toronto’s premier heritage attraction.
In addition to providing their enhanced Opus high fidelity
audio players with full colour screens that display still
images as well as video, Acoustiguide’s award winning
creative team worked with Casa Loma’s staff to re-
interpret the building’s context in Edwardian Toronto
while still relating the life and accomplishments of its
owner Sir Henry Pellatt, one of the most imaginative
members of the Canadian establishment.
The enhanced visitor experience is provided in eight
different languages in order to serve the large number
of international visitors to the venue. New interpretive
tours using American Sign Language for the hearing
impaired and audio description for the visually impaired
have also been introduced.
“The introduction of Acoustiguide’s state-of-the art Opus multimedia system coupled with the firm’s depth of creative experience gained by interpreting the world’s leading cultural and heritage institutions delivers the ultimate in tour technology and content to Casa Loma. It will help illuminate City Council’s vision of reflecting the imagination, energy and innovation of Toronto at the beginning of the 20th century and is a marriage of medium and content that a visionary like Sir Henry Pellatt would have very much approved. ”, said Richard R. Wozenilek, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Casa Loma.
“Acoustiguide Inc. is thrilled to be working with Casa Loma to provide their new audio tour. The tour serves as a key interpretive tool for the site and we are pleased to have created an experience that is both educational and entertaining for visitors. It is an exciting time of transformation for Casa Loma and we are proud to be a part of that.”,
said Samantha Hoover, Director of Business Development and Marketing, Acoustiguide, Inc.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the talented teams of Acoustiguide and Casa Loma” said Jonathan Stanley, President & CEO of AudioConexus, “Casa Loma is an important part of our Canadian heritage and offers an outstanding example of the opulence of the Edwardian era coupled with compelling stories and enduring characters for everyone who visits. Casa Loma Casa Loma is owned by the City of Toronto and has been operated by the Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma since 1937. In addition to being a major historic tourist attraction, it is a much sought after location for lavish parties, weddings, cultural events, corporate gatherings and film shoots.
Created with reverence for a bygone era of imperial grace and splendour, Casa Loma is the enduring legacy of Sir Henry Pellatt, a prominent Canadian financier, industrialist and military officer of the twentieth century. He built his dream home almost a century ago, capturing the best architectural elements of the Gothic, Norman and Romanesque styles. The exquisitely detailed plaster ceilings, rich wood carvings, dazzling marble and luminous stained glass are a testament to his taste for opulent appointments. Casa Loma became renowned in Toronto’s social circles, as home to the Pellatt’s many extravagant affairs. Today, Casa Loma enjoys a similar high profile in the social and cultural landscape of Toronto.
