Vancouver Stars in ABC’s The Bachelorette on June 8th

VANCOUVER, BC: Tourism Vancouver and The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver are proud to announce that Vancouver will be featured in the June 8th episode of the ABC primetime hit The Bachelorette.

This season’s “Bachelorette” is Vancouver’s own Jillian Harris. On the June 8 episode, Jillian will surprise 13 of her suitors with a romantic trip to her hometown of Vancouver. Jillian’s authentic excitement for her city shines through as she shows the guys the best that Vancouver has to offer. Dates include a romantic dinner at Grouse Mountain Resort, a kayaking excursion to Granville Island, a romantic picnic in Stanley Park, and a Vancouver harbour cruise aboard the classic luxury yacht, Pacific Yellowfin, complete with a Dungeness crab dinner hosted by adventure travel outfitter Exposure. Jillian also has the guys flex their muscles in a competitive match of curling! Curling is a true Canadian sport that will be part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Jillian’s suitors stayed at the luxurious Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, located in the city’s downtown core. The guys were accommodated in the impressive 1009 suite, appointed with three bathrooms to make quick work of the pre-date preparations. Known for anticipating guest needs, the hotel housekeeping team provided 13 mini bottles of mouthwash each day. The Fairmont kitchen team went through 110 eggs and 62 cups of coffee to fuel the 13 bachelors for their dates. The pre-rose ceremony reception was hosted in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s Morningside Suite, followed by the final rose ceremony for the episode which was held in the hotel’s historic Boardroom.

To celebrate Vancouver’s starring role in The Bachelorette, Fairmont and Tourism Vancouver are giving away a romantic getaway to Vancouver. The Art of Romance Vancouver Getaway package includes two night’s stay at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, sparkling wine and strawberries, deluxe breakfast, valet parking and late check out. In addition, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is inviting locals to cheer for their favourite Vancouver-girl in 900 West Lounge on the evening of June 8. The Vancouver episode will be aired on the lounge television as millions of people from the United States and Canada watch. A specially prepared Final Rose cocktail ($10) will be available for the festivities.

This is the second time that the widely popular reality show has filmed in Vancouver, having hosted The Bachelor in 2004. Tourism Vancouver and Fairmont worked closely with the producers of both shows, along with the Canadian Tourism Commission, Tourism British Columbia and Tourism Whistler, to create an experience highlighting the exciting activities available in British Columbia and Canada.

Vancouver-resident Jillian Harris, 29, got the plum job of being this season’s Bachelorette after being a contestant on the most recent season of The Bachelor where she was an instant fan favourite and was one of the final three women in the competition for “Bachelor” Jason Mesnick’s heart. Jillian is an accomplished restaurant interior designer with a degree from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She has worked with Vancouver-based Browns Restaurant Group since 2004 on the design and launch of all Browns Socialhouse and Pinkys Steakhouse locations. Jillian is also known for her “hot dog dating theory” from last season where she claimed she could discover a lot about a man from the toppings he puts on his hot dog.
