Nearly One Million Britons Visited Canada in 2005
For the first time ever the number of British visitors to Canada exceeded the 900,000 mark in 2005. The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) released the January to December figures in a Tourism Snapshot publication´ at Spotlight Canada.
- 906,179 is the official number, said Maggie Davison, M.D, CTC UK, These numbers serve to strengthen the position of the UK as the second largest market to Canada after the U.S. The UK arrivals represents a 9.9 percent increase on 2004. December visitation alone from the UK was up 14.5 percent. she added.
Air Capacity to Canada from the UK has grown and the arrival of low cost scheduled airlines has brought the price of airfares to Canada down, making it more affordable than ever. Add in Canada´s reputation as a safe, English speaking, diverse destination offering stunning scenery, easy access to outdoor adventure and a relaxed way of life at an affordable price are all contributing to the growing numbers.
With the launch of our new Brand at the World Travel Market last November, and the campaign kicking off in January this year with London Underground, print, gym and internet based promotions we are excited about the proposition of reaching 1 million British visitors to Canada soon.
The new brand serves to position Canada as a progressive, modern, dynamic destination to a younger target audience added Ms. Davison, who joined the CTC in October 2005
