“Murder at Hotel Cinema” written by hotel manager Daniel Craig, will be released in June 2008
Reckless publicity stunt, suicide or murder?
(Vancouver, B.C.) – Parlaying his career in luxury hotels into a second career as a novelist, Daniel Edward Craig releases Murder at Hotel Cinema in June. In this star-studded sequel to Murder at the Universe, Craig pokes good-humored fun at the celebrity-crazed Los Angeles culture from the perspective of dedicated hotel manager Trevor Lambert.
After the tragic death of girlfriend Nancy Swinton, Trevor moves to LA to manage Hotel Cinema, a multi-million-dollar rejuvenation of an Old Hollywood motor inn. At the hotel's opening party, Tinseltown's hottest star, Chelsea Fricks, takes a fatal dive from her penthouse balcony. Was it a reckless publicity stunt or did fame drive her to suicide? Chelsea's stab wounds tell another story. When hotel staff are targeted as murder suspects, Trevor finds himself at the center of a Hollywood murder mystery, harassed by Chelsea's pit bull publicist, her heartthrob boyfriend, a meddlesome tabloid reporter, a star-struck detective, and an owner who breaks every rule in the hotel handbook. As he struggles to quell the hysteria and to find Chelsea's killer, Trevor revisits Nancy's death and is forced to come to terms with the past and step into the media spotlight.
Having worked in luxury hotels for fifteen years, Craig is all too familiar with the challenges of catering to celebrity clientele. "I could write a tell-all about all the stars I've met and the situations I've encountered," he says, "but discretion is paramount in the hotel business–and it's more fun to write fiction. In Murder at Hotel Cinema a hotel manager's worst nightmare occurs when a guest–a very famous guest–is murdered on hotel property. I draw from the bizarre situations and characters I've encountered in my career, except for the murder part, which I'm happy to say is pure invention."
Craig embarked on his hotel career in Toronto in 1987 and has since worked for ten luxury hotels, most recently as vice president of Opus Hotels in Vancouver and Montreal and general manager of Opus Vancouver. Under his direction Opus gained an international reputation for exemplary service, cutting edge marketing, and celebrity sightings. In 2008 Opus was once again named one of the top hotels in the world by CondГѓВ© Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazines.
Craig also continues to write his popular blog at www.danieledwardcraig.com, which has attracted a worldwide following for its frank and entertaining insider's look at the hotel business.
Murder at Hotel Cinema will be published by Midnight Ink Books/Llewellyn in June 08 in the US and Canada and is available for pre-order from most booksellers. ISBN: 978-0738711195. Price US $15.95/CDN $18.50. Craig's third installment in the Five-Star Mystery Series will be released in April 2009.
