‘Maple Syrup Medley’ at 17th Wye Marsh Sweetwater Harvest

The cheerful and sweet sounds of contemporary and traditional Canadian music will filter through the Maple Sugar Bush along with the aromas from boiling sap and bannock cooking over an open wood fire. Events for the entire family will include taffy tasting, cooking demonstrations, Woodcarvers and Wildflower Gardeners exhibits, live animal shows, children’s crafts and face painting, horse-drawn wagon rides.

The annual Sweetwater Harvest celebration takes place on Saturday March 29th and Sunday, March 30th. Individual Admission to Sweetwater Harvest is $5.00 and children 3 and under are free. For an additional $5.00 visitors can dine on the famous indoor or outdoor pancake, sausage and maple syrup breakfast including coffee, tea or juice.

The Sugaring-Off Process-Boiling Maple Sap

Sugaring off of maple syrup is a strong Ontario tradition going back centuries, with Sweetwater Harvest at Wye Marsh being one of the province’s top maple syrup events in Canada. . Three separate methods of Maple Syrup making include Native, Pioneer & Modern MapleSyrup demonstrations. Stroll along nature trails and visit the demonstration stations where you can see, feel, smell and taste sugaring off techniques used over the years.

Children’s Drawing Contest, Maple Themed

Wye Marsh is now accepting submissions for the following age categories: 3 divisions 4 and under, ages 5 to 8, and ages 9 to 12. Submissions are now being accepted. Prizes will be awarded to top three winners in each age category and will be announced at Sweetwater Harvest on Saturday, March 29th at 11:00am and then displayed throughout the weekend. Carol Currie and Stuart Leggett from The Carriage House Gallery in Midland will be the judges for this contest. They will also be selecting one drawing which will to be used in promotion of Sweetwater 2009. Deadline for submission is Saturday, March 22nd by 5:00 pm

Giant Pancake Eating Contest

Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 pm Divisions: Division A) 12 and under Divisions B) 13 and up. Cost: Minimum $5.00 donation to our local food bank will be collected that day

Maple Syrup Cooking Demonstrations

Maple Syrup cooking demonstrations will take place on Saturday March 29th between 10:00 am and 3:00 where a mГѓВ©lange of possible creative and tasty recipes will be presented from Georgian College Hospitality & Tourism Faculty experts. Recipes for these tantalizing delights will be available after each demonstration.
