Scott Walking Tours of Tasmania, Australia

Come along with Scott Walking Adventures as we host the Tasmanian Wilderness Hiking Experience, a new destination for the 2007 season. You have the option of taking the full 18-day Ultimate Journey or opting to experience either the east or west section for a 9-day excursion.  This fully catered and accommodated holiday includes moderate walking, including rest breaks and photography periods, to allow you to experience the scenery with all your senses.

Tasmania offers an extraordinary contrast of landscapes with alpine wilderness in the west, and remote pristine beaches in the east. Eleven national parks are visited, offering the finest in Tasmania's wilderness scenery. The Valley of the Giants boasts the tallest old-growth hardwood trees in the world at 97 meters tall. One can marvel at the forces of sea and salt while looking at crafted blow holes, arches, gorges, sea caves and unique tidal paving at the coast. The beauty of the Bay of Fires with its orange encrusted granite outcrops and turquoise waves breaking on a beach of powder-white sand is an amazing sight to behold. Discover the fracture line where 45 million years ago, Australia split from Antarctica and the ancient super continent of Gondwana.

You will enjoy daily encounters with the unique wildlife of Australia, including pademelons, wallabies, echidna, wombats and Tasmanian Devils.  The remote beaches are home to albatross, little penguins, seal colonies, seabird rockeries and sea eagles soaring overhead. Visit a unique wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary and do some patient viewing of the living fossil, the platypus. On Maria Island, a wildlife preserve is home to free roaming Cape Barren geese, native hens, kangaroos and bird life.

History and culture are also a part of this journey. Halfway through the ultimate journey at the quaint southern city of Hobart, you can enjoy the Salamanca Market Place and the historic precinct of Battery Point. Visit the Antarctic Centre where historic explorers are remembered and the projects and lives of current day scientists are shared in this last great wilderness.

Step back in time while visiting the ruins of Australia's largest penal settlement and a failed experiment in reforming petty scoundrels from the English homeland. At the end of the 18-day or 9-day east side journey, visit with the locals who have managed to escape the fast life and enjoy an historic bush pub loaded with Aussie character.

Whether it's the landscape, wildlife or the history of Tasmania, this land of mystery is sure to delight you,  the "inquisitive traveler."
