Lufthansa's Star Chefs Program to Showcase Culinary Talents of Esteemed German Chef Karlheinz Hauser

East Meadow, NY – August 26, 2008 – Now in its eighth year, Lufthansa's award-winning Star Chefs onboard fine-dining program will feature the culinary creations of celebrated German toque and restaurateur, Karlheinz Hauser. For six months beginning September 1st, 2008, First and Business Class passengers departing from any of the airline's 19 U.S. gateways will be treated to menus prepared by Chef Hauser.

Chef-proprietor of the acclaimed eatery Seven Seas, located in the Blakenese section of Hamburg, Germany, Hauser has earned numerous accolades throughout his career. Among them is a Five-Star Diamond rating from The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences as well as medals from Gault Millau, one of the most influential French restaurant guides, and from German fine-dining authorities Feinschmecker Guide and Aral Schlemmeratlas. Eckart Witzigmann, the first German-speaking chef to receive three Michelin stars outside of France, called Hauser "one of the most exceptional talents in Germany." Hauser himself was awarded a coveted Michelin star in November 2001, the first ever for restaurant Lorenz Adlon in Berlin's internationally renowned Hotel Adlon Kempinski, where he served as Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage from 1997 to 2002.

Through February 2009, Lufthansa premium passengers departing from the U.S. will enjoy Chef Hauser's savory, French-inspired cuisine. During the six-month cycle, he will create a new menu for each service class every two months. In September/October, First-Class guests will be treated to a full menu that will include such starters as glazed breast of quail on green mountain lentil salad, among other choices; and entrees such as three-pepper crusted salmon, braised fennel and tomato ragout, accompanied by gnocchi, among others.

Chef Hauser's full Business Class menu for September/October will include a choice of starters, such as chili and wasabi prawns with Asian salad and mango, and a selection of entrees including grilled lamb chops with a variety of bean medleys and potato gratin.

World Master Sommelier Markus del Monego, head of Lufthansa's Vinothek Discoveries wine program, has traveled the world to select vintages to pair with Chef Hauser's dishes. Complete menu listings are available upon request.

Born in Baden, Germany in 1967, Chef Hauser's credentials go beyond the kitchen. In addition to his passion for cooking, he heads Hauser Catering & Consulting Company, which works with discriminating clients at upscale venues, including Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, FL, to create memorable catered events. Chef Hauser is also proprietor of luxury boutique hotel Suellberg, which is located on the same historic property as his Seven Seas restaurant, overlooking the Elbe River.
