The MV Northern Expedition becomes the Newest Vessel in the BC Ferries Fleet

This spring, a new addition to the BC Ferries family will be forging a watery path along coastal British Columbia. Now enroute from Germany to its new Canadian home, the MV Northern Expedition, set to replace the Queen of Prince Rupert, is a 150-metre cruise-ferry which houses 55 modern staterooms, the latest in marine design and technology, and room to accommodate 600 passengers and 130 vehicles.

Stats aside, passengers can settle in once onboard, whether they sip a latte at Canoe CafГѓВ©, kick back in the Raven and Aurora Lounges or order up at Vista Restaurant. A bonus? Each indulgence is backed by beauty, courtesy of the ever-changing coastal scenery. Beyond the varied landscape, this is one journey that promises a bounty of wildlife and perhaps even a fleeting glimpse of the area's resident whales.

Set to sail mid-May, the ship will commence service on BC Ferries' Inside Passage route between Port Hardy on Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert in Northern British Columbia, the latter a gateway to the Queen Charlotte Islands, or Haida Gwaii. "This new ferry offers a cruise-like experience and, coupled with the Northern Adventure which we introduced in 2007, will greatly enhance customer service on our northern routes," says David L. Hahn, BC Ferries' President and CEO. Not to mention it will offer even more incentive to head north this spring.
